The Staffin Museum is a small community-based museum located in the village of Ellishadder, on the eastern coast of the Trotternish peninsula, Isle of Skye. The museum is located directly across from the Kilt Rock viewpoint, on the A855, about two miles south of Staffin Bay and about ten miles north of Portree. The museum was founded in the late 1970s by Mr. Ross. The museum was moved to its present location, a reconstructed 19th century Free Church of Scotland schoolhouse, in 1994. A collaborative relationship is being developed between the Staffin Museum and Oxford College of Emory University, especially the departments of Anthropology and Geology.
Collections description

Founded and curated by Mr. Dugald Ross, the Staffin Museum contains excellent collections of local geological and fossil specimens, as well as representative artifacts illustrating prehistory and social history on the Trotternish. The museum's most famous holdings are dinosaur fossils unearthed on the Trotternish peninsula, Isle of Skye. These include the fossil legbone of a large saruopod dinosaur (a long necked, 'Brontosaurus'-type dinosaur) and the ulna and radius of a thyreophoran dinosaur (an armoured dinosaur that may have been a Stegosauras).

    The Aros Experience (near Portree) - A multi-media exhibition about the history of Skye with a commentary available in 8 languages. Regular concerts and arts events take place in the theatre where films (movies) are also screened. Bird exhibitions with nest live-cams. Restaurant, gift shop, toilets, car park, currency exchange. Open daily all year from 9am to 9pm (9am to 6pm out of season). Children's play areas. Forest trails around Glen Varragill.

    Mealt Waterfall and Kilt Rock (17 miles north of Portree)
This waterfall drops 300 feet into the sea. Often the water from the loch never reaches the ocean, but gets blown away by the wind. The spot is also a popular viewpoint for the Kilt Rock where columns of dolerite, rather like the black basalt of Staffa, form what appear to be pleats in the cliff. So dangerous is this part of the coast, that it has been wisely fenced off.
